memory objects
I’d assumed certain favorite objects would come with me when I temporarily, partially moved to LA. But when packing time came, they stubbornly insisted on staying home in Berkeley. So when I was in LA, I drew them from memory, feeling their contours with a very soft pencil, erasing and redrawing over and over until they felt like themselves, in an almost psychic process of remembering or summoning each object’s presence.
After moving back home, I photographed the objects, together with their drawings, and then made them into a book with text (excerpted here alongside the pictures).
