he likes you is a set of three folded fortune tellers (also known as “cootie catchers”) inspired by those made by generations of elementary-school girls. This artists’ book takes a painfully humorous look at compulsory heterosexuality through the complex interactions of boys & girls, racial isolation & nerdiness, & a young woman’s disappointments in dating men.

Vertical accordion book-in-a-box opening to 80” tall. The list of 170 names is accompanied by a story about the artist’s childhood relationships with other Chinese American girls. The box/book cover has a ribbon loop to facilitate hanging the book for display.

howards & hoovers: a sample book of chinese american male names

howards & hoovers is a collection of 180 Chinese American male first names in a paint sample or Pantone fan format, interspersed with written vignettes relating some of the artist’s personal experiences with Chinese American men & their names. 

Names range from the “classic” (Harry, Kenneth, Nelson) to the mundane (Walter, Russell, George) and the truly weird (Zeppelin, Suber, Wildon).
